There are several things that you can do to help the Recovery Initiative reach its goal of rebuilding the upper Columbia white sturgeon population.
Avoid polluting streams and lakes with garbage, fuel, or other contaminants.
Avoid their habitat. In case of incidental catches while angling, take great care in handling. For more information, visit Safe Handling Techniques.

Without the timely help of this researcher, this adult sturgeon would not have survived! It had swallowed a coffee mug!
A mug was discovered wedged in the mouth of this adult white sturgeon during 2006 research monitoring in the Transboundary Reach of the upper Columbia River. With the help of some pliers to extricate the mug, the adult sturgeon will fortunately be able to survive. Had this sturgeon not been found, this fish certainly would not have survived.
Please help keep our river clean and safe for you, the fish, and the environment!
